Every time I go on walks in the park or a drive in my car, I’m inspired by the beauty I see in the forests, paths, gardens, and fields. I find genuine joy in sitting down to capture the details of these natural spaces with pencil, brush, and pen.
I begin each painting with a sketch of the scene; doing so allows me to get a sense of the proportions I wish to maintain as I paint. Using gentle, calculated brush strokes, I implement various techniques, one of my favorites being the graded wash. I love the diffusion of colors and values intrinsic to that method; it enables me to create a smooth transition between light and dark hues. I finish each composition with line work, using ink to define form and enhance texture.
In my work, I endeavor to create an experience for my audience which evokes memories and emotions from their childhood. My aim is to make them feel as if they have opened an illustrated children’s book, complete with hidden details just waiting to be uncovered.
